Highway Tale
(Jim Quealy)
I was driving down Panhandle Road
Where, years ago, that old blue van broke down
I passed that Phillips station, where we got towed
We had never seen a slower, smaller one horse town
TV dinners in a motel 6 with an interstate view
It took a day to get that muffler fixed, but we stayed for two
Now all the time in between feels like a foggy distant dream
And that highway tale replays like it was yesterday
We came together on that dusty road
Now we’re a million miles apart
Guess the real world got the best of us both
But as I drive ahead, I’m lookin’ back at a town in my heart
Wild blue horizon with a rising sun and a winding trail
Reeling at the feeling that we’d just begun our highway tale
All the time in between feels like a foggy distant dream
As that highway tale replays like it was yesterday
If there’s a distance in my gaze
My mind is drifting through the haze
Of a love that could not stay like it was yesterday
All the time in between feels like a foggy distant dream
Tonight that highway tale replays like it was yesterday
Just like it was yesterday
